Ways to Save your Data . . . And your Peace of Mind! |
| USB Storage:
Is the newest backup method for computer systems
today. USB Memory Sticks go by many names and come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.
There are also USB External Hard drives in both 2.5" and 5 1/4" format and they range 40 Gigabyte to 1 Terabyte. DVD-R/RW & Blu-Ray: DVD's are still a great way to protect your data and the new Blu-Ray technology prices are dropping. Today's DVD drives are designed for multiple platforms. Depending on the DVD these will hold 4.7GB DVD+R/+RW or 8.5GB DVD+R Double Layer Discs and Blu-Ray Disc will hold 50 Gigabyte of Data. CD-R/RW: This method is great for making copies of music and for backing up your data. They will hold about 700MB of data and the CD-R disks are very inexpensive - less than fifty cents each. The CD-RW disks are slightly higher, but can be erased and used over and over. Your students at home working on essays or term papers should make sure that they keep a copy on their own USB memory stick --not just the hard drive. It only takes a moment and it will save hours of reentering when the hard drives decides it has worked long enough. And it will keep you from having a crying student wake you up at 2:00 am telling you the computer just wiped out hours of typing! If you have a business, The PC Doctor recommends that you use 3 USB Drives, label A-B-C and rotate them each week. Use USB Drives for a Solid Backup System: Once the program is installed, they will automatically backup your data at whatever schedule you desire. All you have to do is be sure to rotate the drives regularly to keep your data secure. If you have a business, The PC Doctor recommends that you use 2-4 USB Drives depending on your storing abilities. Then rotate them accordingly. Also, don't forget to test your backup system out, by doing a data restore test occasionally. |
